Tétouan, city of the North of Morocco, in the southeast of Tangier, on the north hillside of Rif, near the Mediterranean Sea. Situated in an agricultural region, Tétouan is a centre of business for the products of the agriculture and the craft. The industries count notably cement works and canning factories of fish.

 

 

The city was based in the XIV-th century in the place of an ancient Punic counter. Destroyed by the Spaniards, she was reconstructed in the XV-th century by the Andalusians. Tétouan (in Spanish Tetuán) was the capital of Spanish Morocco from 1915 till 1956. Population (estimation 1992): 277 000 inhabitants.
