The mosque Hassan II

History: foundation on July 12, 1986 then inauguration the 30 aout 1993, after 7 working years. Few goods(articles) tell this construction site which led(drove) has to build the biggest mosque of the world. There are so here only figures which show the dimension of the construction site but regrettably not his beauty. Given that the mosque is by the sea, the foundations required 26 000m3 of the concrete and 59 000m3 of the rocks to fight against the effects of the swell. For the construction of the building(ship) containing the room of prayer, the minaret and the madrassa, 8 cranes of 220t in the square meter and 12 mobile cranes were installed(settled). For realization of the minaret, a crane of a record height of 210m, was organized. The structures of the whole mosque are in reinforced concrete dressed in decorations stemming from the Moroccan craft. The realization of the whole work mobilized about 35 000 workers and artisans making 50 million working hours. The room of the prayers of 200m of length and 100m of wide consists of nefs three, occupying a surface of 20 000m2. If the square can welcome 80 000 believers(regular customers), the room of prayers can contain 25 000. This last one of is surmounted it of a mobile roof of 3400m2 and of 1100t who can move in 5 minutes thanks to a system of movement with chain(channel). When the roof is closed, the room of the prayers is lit(enlightened) by 50 chandeliers(lustrums) and 8 Murano's glass wall lamps. The most impressive measure 6 metres in diameter, 10m of height and 1200kg The coverage of the roof required the pose(installation) of 300 000 tiles(blows) specially realized in cast iron of aluminium by the group Bouygues ( project manager) imitating the tile(blow) in four times as light but traditional varnished terra-cotta. For the finish and the religious objects, artisans of all the realm contributed to cover more than 53 000m2 of sculptured and painted wood more than 10 000m2 of zellij representing 80 original motives. The sculptured and painted plaster was completely worked on the spot by 1500 artists on more than 67 000m2. The wooden domes were fixed to skeletons realized with 971t of stainless steel and suspended from the structure in reinforced concrete. The mosque is decorated with 124 fountains and marble bowls .
