Why to take a guide?
It is more interesting to take an independent guide rather than a travel agency. At first for the logistics and the tranquillity, for the meals, for the contact with the inhabitants, to have explanations on the local life, to know which are the main sites to see. It is not dearer(more expensive) and at least we are on that the money(silver) which one gave to the guide is not going to return to France to inflate the boxes of an agency. It is more interesting for the guide himself. Ali explained us that he preferred to leave with only 2 independent customers rather than to be used(employed) as guide by an agency to accompany a group of a dozen persons, and this for several reasons. The first and certainly the most important is that it(he) gains(wins) at least so much money(silver) with 2 independent customers!! The second is that when everything is well, it is the agency which harvests the laurels of the glory, and which is still going to get back the other customers, but that in the slightest problem everybody turns around against the guide. We saw walkers finishing on the back of a she-mule. And then it is more interesting for us. We prepared the route of the trek since France by subjecting our project to Ali. On the spot, if one judges a too short stage, it is possible to extend her(it) by making for example a variant and install(settle) the bivouac somewhere else not too much far from a water source. It is impossible with an agency. If I note any çà it is that throughout the trek, many walker belonging to groups envied our travel agency. They looked for all to know how we had made(done) to organize our journey, and to know the coordinates of our guide. For all the same reproaches, the organization without defect was of the too stiff blow, too much squared. All this lacked emotion, spontaneity, improvisation and contact with the local population. It is a little bit normal also because in a structure, which sold a "turnkey" trek, it is necessary to satisfy everybody. Of the blow there are the satisfied, the dissatisfied parcequ' they it not made(did) enough and the dissatisfied parcequ' they too much made(did) it. The organization of the journey since France by contacting directly a guide in Morocco can appear to lack guarantee. Please , know that we had no problem and in a general way guides try to be made a clientele by offering the best possible service. They count then on the bush telegraph. |
